COBI is making room in its product lineup again. Six items are no longer available and will be removed from the current catalog. This time, the changes mainly affect models from the Historical Collection, but Volkswagen and the Top Gun series are also included.
News like this is always of interest to collectors. After all, “no longer available from COBI” doesn’t automatically mean that a set has completely disappeared from the market overnight. Retailers may still have remaining stock—but how long that will last is another question.
Here’s an overview of the current BloxxOuts.
COBI 2257 – 1942 Ambulance WC 54
View COBI 2257 in the BloxxStar set database

With the 1942 Ambulance WC 54, a somewhat different vehicle is bidding farewell to the Historical Collection WWII.
The set consists of 293 pieces. Instead of a tank, artillery piece, or fighter plane, the focus here is on a historic ambulance—and it’s precisely vehicles like this that add some variety to a collection.
COBI 2257 is now one of the sets that are no longer available and have been discontinued.

COBI 24655 – Volkswagen CDU with 16 Golf Sets

A somewhat unusual item can be found under the number COBI 24655.
This isn’t a single model, but rather the Volkswagen CDU, which includes a total of 16 Golf sets. COBI no longer carries this set in its product lineup.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the same thing for the individual Golf models—the notice primarily refers to the CDU under item number 24655.

A Sherman has to be included, too.
The Sherman M4A3E2, set number COBI 2550, consists of 720 pieces and is part of the Historical Collection WWII.
This marks the disappearance of yet another larger tank model from the current COBI lineup. Anyone who still has this specific version of the Sherman on their personal wish list should therefore at least keep an eye on remaining retailer stock.

COBI 2585 – 38 cm Sturmtiger Assault Mortar

The next model in the lineup is even bigger.
The 38 cm Sturmtiger Assault Mortar consists of 1,100 pieces and is also part of the Historical Collection WWII.
The historical model itself makes the Sturmtiger a rather unusual addition among the numerous Tiger, Panther, and Sherman variants. It is precisely this COBI version, set number 2585, that is now being discontinued.
It remains to be seen whether COBI will eventually release a revised version. In any case, the current version is being phased out for now.

COBI 2735 – Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf. E

An EOL list of COBI tanks would be almost incomplete if a Tiger didn’t show up somewhere.
This time, it’s the Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf. E with set number 2735. The model consists of 428 pieces and is also being discontinued.
COBI has released numerous different versions of the Tiger over the years. It’s therefore important for collectors to note: It’s not “the Tiger” that’s being discontinued, but specifically this version with set number 2735.

COBI 5846 – P-51D Mustang from Top Gun: Maverick

The final BloxxOut in this round isn’t from the classic Historical Collection, but from the licensed Top Gun: Maverick universe.
The P-51D Mustang, set number COBI 5846, consists of 350 pieces. With its discontinuation, the Top Gun series loses yet another aircraft model.
Especially those who have collected the licensed Top Gun sets or want to complete their series are likely to find this release more interesting than the next tank reissue.

EOL—what now?
When a set is discontinued by COBI, it simply means that this specific part number will no longer be regularly produced and is no longer available from COBI.
However, there may still be remaining stock in stores. For some models, this stock lasts for quite a while; for others, it disappears relatively quickly. And, of course, a BloxxOut doesn’t automatically mean we’ll never see that particular vehicle from COBI again.
After all, new or revised versions are nothing out of the ordinary, especially for well-known models.
For collectors, therefore, the motto isn’t so much “Buy it now!” as it is: If you already had one of these six sets on your wish list, you should check its availability now.
After all, eventually even the last remaining stock will be gone.
